The collaboration brings transport, mobility, and accessibility into the wider building sustainability work our teams already lead for developers, owners, and occupiers.

How buildings connect is now part of performance

For years, the sustainability conversation centred on energy, and more recently on occupant health. How people reach a building, and how they move once they arrive, has often sat outside that frame.

That is changing.

Now owners and occupiers want to know how their buildings support lower-carbon, more accessible transport, and they want a credible way to measure it. ModeScore gives them one.

What the partnership covers

BEE and ModeScore will explore opportunities to introduce ModeScore certification across BEE’s network, with an initial focus on China and the Middle East, where both teams have active projects.

Ahmed adds that working with ModeScore allows bee to answer with an independent, comparable benchmark, and it fits naturally with the certification and performance work our teams already know.

In practice, that means client referrals, training for BEE teams, and collaboration on projects where transport and mobility performance complements a wider building sustainability strategy.

There is room to grow the relationship over time, and no shortage of clients for whom connectivity is already part of the brief.

Why China and the Middle East first

Both regions are building at pace, and both are moving quickly on how sustainability is measured.

In the Gulf, transport and connectivity now sit inside national development goals.  In China, dense, transit-rich developments make mobility a natural part of the performance story.

BEE has teams and live projects in both, which makes them the practical place to start.

About ModeScore

ModeScore is an international rating and certification system for sustainable transport in buildings and developments. It assesses how well a building supports public transport, electric mobility, walking, cycling, and lower-carbon logistics, and it aligns with green building standards including LEED, BREEAM, and WELL. ModeScore can also support submissions to GRESB, the investor-led ESG benchmark for real estate. It is developed by the team behind ActiveScore, its sister certification for active-travel infrastructure, and is being implemented across Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf.
